Juliana Hatfield is what set this whole thing off I think. Elizabeth and I freaked out because we had both seen her show at The Academy when she was with The Juliana Hatfield Three. It was my first “show.” Sure I had been to some concerts at Jones Beach with my parents and fell asleep. Sure I had seen NKOTB at Nassau Coliseum, but this was different. I was 14. Me and Ally Sklover went together and smoked pot. We bought JH3 t shirts and WORE THEM AT THE SHOW, breaking the first rule of being cool.
Why don’t people talk about JH? Did they forget so soon that she was also cast as a homeless lady on My So Called Life? Did they forget that she sings backup on the Lemonheads “Drug Buddy”? I guess so.
Another thing, The Academy was the best venue ever. I saw a million shows there and it was within walking distance to Penn Station. I cut school to see the Beastie Boys where I was second on line (I’m pretty sure Elizabeth was first in line, and we’ll save that story for later).

WOO YES JULIANA, first and last time I saw her live was at Queen Elizabeth Hall, southbank centre, London, 10th October 2008 7.45pm. I sat in seat 8 row C (apparently, I have the ticket on my pin-board right in front of me). She made us all cry when she read out the story of her parents split and then played ‘My Baby…’
And we met her! She was really lovely, had such intense eyes though! I still can’t believe we met her…feels like a dream!
